Mental health care and addiction division

Mental health services offer treatment for mental disorders and substance use and dependency disorders for all age groups. We also have a rehabilitation department for adult patients who have complex disabilities and neuropsychiatric conditions from an early age.

Most of us experience psychological discomfort and distress from time to time. Between 30 and 50 per cent will develop a mental disorder at some point in their lives. In the case of mental disorders and substance use and addiction disorders, treatment is a collaboration between the patient and the therapist. The outcome depends on the patients taking an active role, where their knowledge and experiences are actively incorporated.

Treatment for mental disorders and substance use and addiction disorders usually takes place through day treatment (outpatient) or where you live (ambulatory). The treatments we provide occur in collaboration between the patient, relatives, entities in the patient's daily life, and the local community, such as primary healthcare services, NAV, schools, and workplaces.
The main part of the treatment offerings is linked to decentralised units, such as district psychiatric centres (DPS), outpatient clinics for children and adolescents, and outpatient clinics for patients with substance use and addiction disorders.
