Student

Before a practical placement, you must familiarise yourself with some important information and complete several mandatory courses. Below you will find all the information you need before starting. Welcome as a student at Akershus University Hospital!

At Ahus, we welcome up to 1,000 students each year. We aim to facilitate and provide you as a student with a good learning environment. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with all the learning opportunities available where you are in practice. Take responsibility for your own learning, and seek guidance when you need it.

As a student, you must complete three mandatory e-learning courses in the Learning Portal before you can obtain an ID card. The ID card grants you access around Ahus.

The e-learning courses are:

  • Ahus - Emergency Preparedness
  • Ahus - Fire Safety
  • Ahus - Information Security

Logging into the Learning Portal

  • Go to: https://hso.sabacloud.com/.
  • Log in using ID-porten (for example, with BankID).
  • Click on "START".
  • Note: we use video with sound in several of the courses, so please turn on the sound.
  • If you need to interrupt a course, you can continue from the same point when you log in again.

Other recommended courses

In addition to the courses above, we recommend that you take the following:

  • Dips Arena - Getting Started
  • Dips Arena - Nursing and Midwifery (then select the relevant term for your placement)
  • Metavision - Getting Started
  • Basic Infection Control Procedures
  • Isolation - Reducing the Spread of Infection
  • Hand Hygiene
  • Getting to Know Ahus

The day after the e-learning courses are completed, you can visit the service centre to collect your ID card at Nordbyhagen or Kongsvinger.

We recommend that you collect your card before your first day of placement to avoid long queues. Please come after 10:00.

Kongsvinger

You will receive your ID card on your first day of placement.

How to proceed

If you are working at other treatment facilities, you must travel to Nordbyhagen. Please contact the main reception, and they will take you to the service centre.
  • All ID cards are produced and issued in person:
    • Ahus Nordbyhagen and other treatment facilities: the service centre in the tunnel (under the hospital). The service centre is open until 15:30.
    • Ahus Kongsvinger: the service desk on the ground floor, Kongsvinger Hospital.
  • Remember to bring valid identification (bank card with photo, driving licence, national ID card, or passport).
  • ID cards require a photo; the service centre will take your picture upon arrival.
  • Remember: the card must be worn at all times. The card is personal and must never be lent to others.

As a trainee at Ahus, you, like all other employees, must adhere to a number of guidelines. You will receive more information about this when you start, but it may be helpful to be aware of some of this before you join us.

If you have any questions, we recommend checking out MittAhus, our intranet. There, we have gathered information on a variety of topics.

Social Media

Search for social media on MittAhus to read more and see the link to the full guidelines. Below is an excerpt regarding personal use.

  • Be mindful of your role as an employee of the hospital. The outside world may perceive you as an ambassador for your workplace even when you use social media as a private individual outside of working hours. Ensure that it cannot be interpreted as you speaking on behalf of Ahus.
  • Social media are public spaces. Be cautious about the information you share and think before you publish.
  • Confidentiality applies in social media as well. Avoid discussing patient stories, even in anonymised form.
  • If you receive a friend request from patients, we recommend politely declining these. This will help you avoid a conflict situation related to confidentiality and your role as a healthcare professional.
  • Employees have freedom of expression, which applies to all relevant verbal and written forums. It is permissible to be critical within the bounds of confidentiality. The laws and regulations that apply in society also apply to the internet and social media.
  • Feel free to share the hospital's content on social media, as this allows us to reach even more people. Contact the communications department if you have any questions.

Photos and Film

  • Employees must be cautious when taking photos and filming on the hospital premises. We should not take pictures of patients unless they are well informed and have signed a consent form. This also applies in common areas at our treatment sites.
  • Be particularly careful about posting pictures of colleagues, work situations, and the workplace. It is not permitted to share images of others without consent. This also applies to group photos. If someone has agreed to be in a photo but later changes their mind, you are obliged to remove the image.

We hope you have a good placement period and learn a lot. Therefore, it is important that you are familiar with the points below.

  • For a good learning outcome, you should follow your practice supervisor's schedule. This includes evening, night, and weekend shifts.
  • Familiarise yourself thoroughly with the routines and procedures that apply where you are on placement.
  • There is a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, harassment, or any other unwanted behaviour at Ahus. If you experience anything that feels uncomfortable, please contact your supervisor at your placement or the supervisor at the next level up.
  • Any unwanted incidents or conditions that negatively affect the working environment, your health, patient safety, or the external environment should be reported using the form in EQS, which is Ahus's incident and improvement system. You will receive more information about this from your practice supervisor.

We look forward to meeting you and hope you have an educational and enjoyable time with us.

Good luck in your practice!
