Strategic direction towards

OECI accreditation

Our long-term ambition is to become an accredited Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) through the European Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI). This requires systematic and continuous efforts to further develop quality, organisation, and cancer research in line with international standards.

Accreditation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center is anchored in Ahus’ Development Plan 2040 and represents a comprehensive strengthening of the entire cancer domain. This includes, among other elements:

  • Improved coordination between diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up
  • Close integration of clinical practice and research
  • Increased patient involvement and a stronger focus on patient-centred care
  • Strengthened multidisciplinary collaboration across divisions
  • Quality improvement and systematic development efforts

This work is organised through a governance framework that ensures both strategic leadership and broad professional involvement.

Why OECI accreditation matters

OECI has developed a comprehensive quality framework for cancer institutions across Europe. By pursuing accreditation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC), Ahus commits to:

  • Continuous quality improvement
  • Integration of research into clinical practice
  • Patient involvement in the development of services
  • International collaboration and knowledge sharing

This provides increased reassurance for patients and demonstrates Ahus’ ambition to be among the leading cancer hospitals in Europe.
Accreditation is not an end in itself. It is a tool for continuous improvement and coordination, and an important step in the development of future cancer care at Ahus.
