EndNote

EndNote is a programme that helps you collect and organise references and articles. This makes it easier to cite sources you have used when writing.

You can import references from PubMed and a number of other databases. When writing articles or assignments, you can reuse the references you have stored in EndNote to insert citations in the text and generate reference lists in the correct format (bibliographic style). All staff can obtain EndNote on their work PCs or order a personal version for their private PCs.

The library is the system administrator for EndNote. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about using the programme: biblioteket@ahus.no

EndNote is currently not compatible with cloud storage and should therefore not be stored in OneDrive. For the time being, please keep your EndNote library on H:.

Sykehuspartner is working on a solution for storing the EndNote library when H: and K: are removed in October.

If you have already moved your EndNote library from H:, it is recommended to move it back to H:, preferably to the folder H:\EndNote, which is a folder associated with the EndNote programme.

Remember that the EndNote library consists of two elements; a file (e.g. MyLibrary.enl) and a folder (e.g. MyLibrary.Data), and that both must be in the same location and have the same name to function properly.

Once you are sure that the EndNote library (both the file and the folder) has been moved back to H:, you can delete the EndNote library from OneDrive.

If you are unsure where your EndNote library is stored, you can check it:

  1. Open the EndNote programme

  2. Click on File > Save a copy

  3. The folder where the EndNote library is stored will open, and you can see where the EndNote library is located

  4. Cancel to avoid saving a copy

You can also search for your EndNote library:

  1. Go to File Explorer

  2. Click in the search box at the top right and type: *.enl

  3. Then the EndNote library will appear in the search results, and you will see where it is stored
(remember that the EndNote library consists of both a file and a folder)

Accessing EndNote on Ahus PC

  1. Go to "My Hospital Partner" and "Order/Cancel Access (BAT)"
  2. Click on "Start a New Order"
  3. Search for EndNote and place your order
  4. You will automatically be granted access
  5. Wait for a while (1 hour) and log off and back on to the machine
  6. Contact Hospital Partner if the programme is not in place within a few hours/the next day

Access to Private PC or Mac

Employees at Ahus can download EndNote on their private PC or Mac. Please contact the library to receive instructions, or:

  1. Visit www.alfasoft.com/no/endnote-hso.html and register with your name and email address (you must use your Ahus email address here)
  2. After registering, you will receive an email that you need to confirm (check your spam folder if you do not receive the email)
  3. Then log in to support.alfasoft.com and click on the box "Helse Sør-Øst HF". Here you will find your licence letter for EndNote with download and installation instructions for both Windows and Mac.

Dedicated Word Version for EndNote on Ahus PC

On Ahus PC, you must use a dedicated Word version alongside EndNote; "Word with EndNote" (this Word version has the EndNote toolbar). Search for it or find it under "My Administrative Programs". The same applies for PowerPoint; "PowerPoint with EndNote".

There is an issue where the EndNote toolbar does not always appear in "Word with EndNote" in the local workspace. In that case, you can switch to the regional workspace (Workspace RCP) and work there instead.

An Output Style governs the layout for citations and reference lists when references are reused in documents. There are thousands of styles that can be downloaded and used with EndNote: EndNote Output Styles

If you are writing documents in Norwegian, you must use Norwegian styles. Here is a selection of websites with Norwegian styles and example collections:
