About us
Akershus University Hospital is owned by Helse Sør-Øst regional health authority and serves as a local and regional hospital for approximately 633,000 residents. Our main tasks are patient care, research, education, and patient training. We offer patient services in somatic care, mental health care, and addiction treatment.
We have 12,000 employees at Ahus responsible for the residents of Follo, Romerike, and the Kongsvinger region. Additionally, the three northernmost districts in Oslo; Alna, Grorud, and Stovner are part of our hospital area. Patients from Alna receive treatment for mental health and substance abuse at Ahus, while somatic specialist healthcare services are provided by Oslo University Hospital.
Our operations take place in Nordbyhagen in Lørenskog, Nordre Follo, Kongsvinger, Gardermoen, and at various treatment locations for mental health and substance abuse treatment.
Akershus University Hospital is an educational institution where you may encounter students. You can opt out of having students present or participating in your treatment.
Visions, Plans, and Social Responsibility
Our vision is "Humanly close - professionally strong".
This means:
As a patient, you should be treated with kindness and respect.
As a patient, you should be met by staff who care about you.
As a patient, you should experience safety.
Our services are rooted in good professional practice and knowledge.
To ensure the population in the catchment area has a good hospital service in the future and to create strong professional environments, Akershus University Hospital has developed a plan for the development of operations and buildings.
The hospital is in an exciting growth period where capacity and services will be increased, with renovations and expansions planned for both the short and long term.
The hospital has a central user council that advocates for patients and their relatives. They ensure that users are heard and consulted in decision-making processes and in the design of services and offerings. Additionally, the hospital has a youth council and user councils in several clinics.
Trade union representatives act as a link between management and employees and are to assist their members in safeguarding general working conditions. The main task of the safety services is to ensure that matters related to the working environment, health, safety, and welfare of employees comply with the provisions of the Working Environment Act.
