Doctor in training (LIS 1)

Ahus has a total of 82 LIS1 positions. As a LIS at Ahus, you will be warmly welcomed and provided with the foundations you need to build a successful career as a doctor.

Specialist training for doctors (Helsedirektoratet.no)

Ahus is a hospital characterised by a high influx of patients. As a Foundation Year 1 (F1) doctor, you will have an active working day with excellent opportunities for learning across a wide range of diagnoses. The learning curve is steep, and you will quickly take on a lot of responsibility in a safe environment.

About the F1 Service at Ahus

Our F1 positions are distributed with 66 at Nordbyhagen and 16 at Kongsvinger. Half of the positions commence at the end of February, while the other half starts at the end of August.

Available F1 positions are advertised in spring and autumn via helsedirektoratet.no.

The F1 service lasts for 18 months. You begin with 12 months in a hospital and then proceed to six months in community healthcare services. Ahus collaborates with municipalities in Akershus, Innlandet, and Finnmark. You will apply for the combinations of hospital service and community service that are relevant to you.

As a Foundation Year 1 (F1) doctor at Ahus, you are entitled to an individual educational plan. You follow this to achieve clinical learning objectives and common competency goals. Daily clinical work under the supervision of more experienced colleagues is the most important way to learn. In addition, you participate in internal teaching and undertake placements, courses, or other specific learning activities. You will also be assigned a supervisor with whom you have regular discussions about your progress in training and life as an F1 doctor at Ahus. Here, you can address challenging situations and, if necessary, receive assistance in connecting with management, union representatives, or the colleague support scheme.

In preparation for the LIS1 service, we are organising a seven-day introductory course to ensure you have a safe and good start with us. During these days, you will participate in simulations, skills training, lectures, and group tasks. You will receive a daily allowance for these seven days.

The course is a collaboration between Ahus, Diakonhjemmet, Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital, and Oslo University Hospital. Some of the activities may therefore take place outside of Ahus.

The course is particularly aimed at the transition from student to employee and is designed to provide you with the necessary understanding of your role and practical tips on how to function as LIS1 from your first day in the clinic. Additionally, a mandatory AHLR course and learning activities related to common competency goals will be conducted.

Before the introductory course, you must complete some e-learning courses to obtain an ID card. Information about this and login details for the Learning Portal will be sent by email well in advance of the start date.

Other Useful Information

At least two representatives are elected from each LIS1 cohort. The Younger Doctors' Association within the Norwegian Medical Association safeguards the interests of LIS1 doctors during their LIS1 service.

Once you have started in your LIS1 position, you can find a lot of useful information on Ahus's intranet, MittAhus, such as the canteen menu, events, cultural and leisure offerings, corporate sports, and much more.
